Residents’ charter
Each resident is entitled to:
Be encouraged and assisted to maintain a high quality of life acceptable to the individual
Be treated with dignity and respect
Be encouraged to maintain their own independence
Have their physical, psychological and social needs respected
Be encouraged to follow the religion of their choice
Be addressed as they wish
Be cared for in a manner similar to that which would be given by a caring relative in their own home
Fair treatment and not to be discriminated against on grounds of race, religion, gender, colour or disability
Have a choice of handling their own finances or nominating an advocate
Use a GP of their choice
Receive medical and nursing care with privacy
Have access to their own medical records
Discuss their care and personal needs with their own keyworker and/or Manager of the home
Be cared for by appropriately trained staff
Receive visitors at any reasonable time as though it were their own home
Have access to a telephone
Be able to complain, without repercussion, about the quality of care received
